COVENANT FAMILY DAILY MEDITATION
DATE: TUESDAY, 9TH JULY, 2019
THEME: BECOMING A MAN (1)
TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING GOD’S DEFINITION OF A HUSBAND
For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the saviour of the body. (Ephesians 5:23 NKJV).
POINTS OF EMPHASIS:
A husband is a born again man, lawfully wedded, one that understands his kingdom responsibilities and is fulfilling them.
Some major expectations from husbands are:
Husbands as the head:
Husbands are the head of their wives and by implication, head of the home. This is a position given to men by God. Husbands must rise and take inspiration from Christ and be the head of their home spiritually and physically. This calls for husbands being the custodian of the word and instructions of God, to ensure they walk by it first, then lead their wives. Husbands must take the lead in erecting and servicing the family prayer altar and lead the wife, exercising authority with respect to the wives, by taking example from Jesus Christ.
To love: Husbands are charged to love their wives to the degree of Christ love for the Church, who gave His life for her. Husbands are not to love conditionally, but imitate Christ who loved the church, despite her filthiness and unlovable state, and gave up Himself for her. Husbands must love their wives in this capacity also and be passionate about their betterment.
Providers: Husbands are charged with the responsibility of taking care of the home, ensuring there’s food on the table (1Timothy5:8). To fulfil this, husbands are to engage in legal business/jobs to earn money for the settlement of bills. Husbands must not shift this responsibility to the wife (except by agreement, say in unfortunate incidence when he loses his job and the wife is buoyant etc)
A good husband must model Christ in His relationship with the church.
O Lord, modeling you as a husband is not easy, please release your divine enablement upon me in Jesus name. Amen.
God’s ability is at work in me to discharge my duties as a good husband.
